Swing Rice Scoop development story

  • We developed a stand-up type product as a practical application of the "Magic Rice Scoop" with our patented double embossing. The fact that spatula head did not touch the table and that it was easy to use was well received, but it would fall over easily if the table moved! This was the opinion of our customers.
  • Therefore, a project was born to create a "rice scoop that won't fall over even if the table shakes" like a self-righting doll.
  • We decided to use metal for the weight because of its specific gravity. When we actually made a model, it had to be made quite heavy for it to work like a self-righting doll, and it just wasn't practical.
  • We revised the plan from "won't fall over" to "won't fall over easily and is easy to use". It was decided that the weight would be enclosed inside the rice scoop. By making good use of our facilities, we were able to create a structure that prevented water getting inside.
  • In addition, we went through a series of designs for the shape and balance, with a center of gravity that users would not find heavy, and we were finally able to find the best balance.
  • It turns out that blister packaging could not withstand the weight because the product was heavier than a normal rice scoop. Therefore, we designed a special deformable box packaging made of plastic. It was a good package that allowed you see the whole rice scoop.
  • The moment it was launched in October 2010, we received numerous inquiries from the media, and it was introduced on TV and in newspapers and magazines. It was covered by a TV show that introduced trendy products and got off to a good start.
  • The number of units sold increased steadily, and it became a hit product. The following year (2011), we released the Swing Tongs, and the year after that (2012), the Swing Peeler, and the series increased in size and became increasing popular!
